The Herb Garden — outdoor ceremony and mandap

The Herb Garden is Ojai Valley Inn's premier outdoor ceremony space. Surrounded by mature fruit trees, aromatic herbs, and the Topa Topa mountain backdrop, it is the kind of setting that makes a mandap installation read like it grew from the landscape rather than being placed on it. For Herb Garden mandaps we lean into palettes that pull from the existing landscape — saffron, terracotta, deep rose, marigold, olive foliage — rather than forcing a contrasting palette that fights with the garden.

Outdoor havan with open-flame agni kund is permitted at the Herb Garden with a fire permit and protective flooring setup. Ojai Valley Inn's events team handles fire permits within the Ventura County jurisdiction and is experienced with traditional Hindu ceremony requirements. We file permits four to six weeks in advance and coordinate with the property's events lead.

The Herb Garden photographs exceptionally well in late afternoon golden-hour light, which is one reason Indian wedding couples often time their ceremony here for 4:00 or 5:00 PM in summer and 3:00 or 3:30 PM in winter. Our installation schedule builds backward from those photography windows.

Pool courtyard — mehndi and haldi

The pool courtyard at Ojai Valley Inn is one of California's most photogenic settings for mehndi and haldi productions. The pool itself reflects overhead floral installation beautifully, the Spanish-mission architecture provides a natural backdrop, and the space supports floor-seating arrangements for up to one hundred fifty guests. Overhead chandelier coverage of jasmine, mogra, and marigold reads beautifully here at afternoon light.

Pool-adjacent haldi productions work particularly well in the morning light. Bride and groom seating on a raised floral platform at the pool's edge, with overhead canopy installation and attendant seating in a semi-circle around them, uses the pool reflection to amplify the installation's visual impact in every photograph.

Ballroom sangeet and reception

Ojai Valley Inn's main ballroom supports sangeet and reception productions for up to five hundred guests with stage-forward layouts, and the ceiling heights support substantial suspended floral installation. Our ballroom sangeet productions here typically integrate LED wall rental with floral framing, full ceiling canopy installations, and entrance choreography that moves guests from the cocktail area through the ballroom doors under a floral archway.

Reception installations use the same ballroom with different staging — dance floor central, reception tables in concentric seating rings, and lounge areas in the corners. The venue's dance floor surface is appropriate for Indian wedding choreographed numbers. Our team coordinates with the property's AV team on lighting cues and load-in schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Can we do the full wedding week at Ojai Valley Inn?+
Yes. Ojai Valley Inn is built for multi-day Indian weddings. A typical four-day wedding runs mehndi at the pool courtyard, haldi in the morning at the spa garden, sangeet in the ballroom, ceremony at the Herb Garden, and reception back in the ballroom. The property's events team coordinates the daily turnover and room-block logistics.
Is outdoor havan allowed at the Herb Garden?+
Yes, with a fire permit and protective flooring. Ojai Valley Inn's events team is experienced with the Ventura County fire permit process, and we have produced many traditional Hindu ceremonies at the Herb Garden with full havan setup.
What are the fire ordinance considerations during fire season?+
Ventura County implements seasonal fire restrictions that can affect outdoor flame permits during high-risk periods, typically late summer through fall. We monitor the fire restriction calendar and recommend early-year or winter wedding dates for families strongly committed to outdoor havan. Alternative indoor havan setups with fire marshal supervision are available year-round.
What is guest accommodation like on-site?+
Ojai Valley Inn has approximately three hundred rooms across the main hotel and surrounding cottages, which accommodates most wedding room blocks on-site. Overflow goes to nearby Ojai inns or to Santa Barbara (forty-five minutes south). Your planner coordinates the block; we coordinate installation schedule around guest arrival windows.
