Stage and backdrop design

The sangeet stage is the night's visual anchor. Our sangeet stages are typically sixteen to twenty-four feet wide, raised between twelve and eighteen inches, and backed by a floral installation that integrates with the room's lighting program. Backdrop styles range from dense floral walls in marigold and rose, to structured LED-integrated installations where floral framing surrounds a video wall, to suspended floral curtains that lift dramatically during choreographed entrance moments. We build backdrop structures in-house so that rigging, electrical, and floral coverage are all engineered together rather than negotiated between three vendors.

Entrance choreography is a distinct design conversation. Many sangeets feature a choreographed bride or couple entrance that moves from a doorway or balcony to the stage, and we design floral installations that support that journey — suspended canopies the couple walks under, petal drops that release on cue, and floral arches that frame the couple's arrival. This choreography is locked during a production meeting roughly three weeks before the event, and we run at least one lighting cue rehearsal with your DJ or lighting designer.

LED integration has become table stakes for modern sangeets. Our team coordinates with LED wall vendors, uplighting designers, and intelligent lighting programmers to make sure the floral design does not compete with the light show. Typically the floral frame stays intentionally restrained in color and density where it sits closest to LED elements, so the light can breathe rather than fight.

Tablescape and dinner design

Sangeet tablescapes are designed for movement. Unlike reception tables, which guests occupy for a full evening, sangeet tables often empty and refill as dance sets cycle, so we design tablescapes that look complete from every angle and do not obstruct sightlines to the stage. Low and elevated centerpieces alternate down the row, candle density is higher than at the reception, and linens, chargers, and napery are coordinated with the overall palette — often warmer and more saturated than the ceremony palette to match the evening's energy.

Color palettes for sangeets trend darker and richer — deep crimson, plum, fuchsia, burnt orange, and touches of emerald or indigo. Metallics play a bigger role: gold candle vessels, brass chargers, and bronze linens read beautifully against saturated floral. We often use lighter cocktail hour palettes that transition to the richer dinner palette, using the venue's foyer-to-ballroom architecture to signal the shift.

Signature drinks and dessert stations get their own floral treatment. Our sangeet production budgets typically include a dedicated floral installation at the bar, the welcome table, and the dessert or chaat station, which are the backgrounds every guest's phone photos end up featuring.

Venue selection and stage logistics

Sangeet venues divide into three categories: ballroom, tent, and outdoor. Each has specific design implications. Ballroom sangeets at venues like the Beverly Hills Hotel Crystal Ballroom, the Four Seasons Westlake Ballroom, and the Langham Huntington Pasadena offer controlled lighting, predictable ceiling rigging points, and consistent climate — which lets us push floral complexity further without weather concerns.

Tent sangeets, common at estate venues in Napa Valley, Santa Ynez, and Hidden Hills, give us more creative freedom with ceiling-height floral installations and ambient lighting. The tradeoff is weather planning, generator noise, and longer install windows. We typically schedule a two-day install for tent sangeets versus a same-day install for most ballroom venues.

Outdoor sangeets — poolside at Ojai Valley Inn, under the oaks at Meadowood, on the terrace at Rosewood Miramar — require weather contingency and careful attention to golden-hour timing. Sunset photography is a major driver for outdoor sangeet design, and we often build a second floral moment specifically for the cocktail-hour-to-dinner transition.

Performance and production coordination

Sangeets are performances. Most feature ten to twenty-five choreographed dance numbers across family members and friends, and the floor needs to stay clear, the stage needs to be accessible, and the lighting needs to support the choreography. Our floral design respects these operational realities — stage-front arrangements are sized and positioned so they do not block a dancer's path, tablescape elements stay below sightline thresholds, and our install sequence leaves the room available for a full dress rehearsal three to four hours before guest arrival.

Choreography rehearsals often run the morning of the sangeet, which means our install window is typically the afternoon. We coordinate with the planner on a production call schedule that lets dance rehearsals, vendor setups, and final floral dressing happen in parallel rather than sequentially. The final sixty minutes before doors open is reserved for our team to do a full walk-through of the room with the planner and make any last adjustments.
