Orthodox Jewish Wedding Decor & Flowers

Designing for separate seating, the mechitza, and the full traditional day.

An Orthodox wedding follows the full traditional sequence — tisch and kabbalat panim, bedeken, chuppah, yichud, and a reception with separate dancing — and often takes place on a Saturday night or Sunday with kosher catering. CHIC Flowers designs Orthodox weddings across Los Angeles, the Valley, and San Diego, with experience in the details that make them different: a beautifully styled mechitza, two pre-ceremony rooms, and an outdoor or skylight chuppah.

Separate seating and the mechitza

Many Orthodox receptions have separate seating and dancing for men and women, divided by a mechitza. Rather than a plain partition, we design the mechitza as part of the décor: draped fabric with floral panels, a line of tall arrangements, or a greenery wall that reads as an installation from both sides. Both sides of the room get equal design attention.

Where the ceremony has separate seating, we plan the aisle and chuppah placement so both sections have a clear view.

Two pre-ceremony rooms

The groom's tisch and the bride's kabbalat panim happen at the same time in separate rooms. The kallah's chair and backdrop anchor the bride's room; the tisch table, where the ketubah is signed, anchors the groom's. We install both early so they are ready before guests arrive, and design them in the same palette as the chuppah.

The chuppah under the open sky

Traditional practice favors a chuppah under the open sky, so many Orthodox ceremonies are held outdoors, on a terrace, or under a skylight or retractable roof. We design freestanding chuppahs weighted for outdoor conditions and coordinate with the venue on skylight or roof options when the ceremony is indoors.

Timing and kosher coordination

Orthodox weddings are usually Saturday night or Sunday, with kosher catering and no vendor work on Shabbat. We install on Friday or Sunday morning as the couple and venue require, and coordinate with the mashgiach on table setting and kitchen access. See our Saturday night timeline and kosher coordination guides.

Frequently asked questions

Can you decorate a mechitza?+
Yes. We design the mechitza as part of the décor — draped fabric with floral panels, tall arrangements, or a greenery wall — so it reads as an installation from both sides.
Do you design both the tisch and the kabbalat panim?+
Yes. We install both rooms early, in the same palette as the chuppah, so they are ready before guests arrive.
Does the chuppah have to be outdoors?+
Traditional practice favors the open sky, so many are outdoors or under a skylight. We design freestanding chuppahs for outdoor conditions and coordinate skylight options indoors.
Are you experienced with Shomer Shabbat weddings?+
Yes. We install on Friday or Sunday morning as required and coordinate with the mashgiach and venue on kosher requirements.
