Sanctuary chuppahs and Persian-Jewish sofreh aghd settings in Westwood.
Sinai Temple on Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood is the first Conservative congregation in Southern California and is known for its large Persian-Jewish community. Weddings here are often large, formal, and rooted in two traditions at once — a chuppah on the bimah with a sofreh aghd spread beside it. CHIC Flowers designs the sanctuary chuppah, the sofreh, and the reception florals, whether the celebration stays on site or moves to a Westside hotel.

Sinai Temple's main sanctuary is a large, formal room with a wide bimah, which gives a chuppah room to be generous: full-height posts, a substantial floral canopy edge or full canopy where the structure allows, and corner arrangements that read from the back rows. We proportion the chuppah to the bimah and the ark behind it and keep the center open so the couple, the rabbi, and the families remain the focus.
The temple's guidelines govern placement, flame, and timing on the bimah. We confirm them with the events staff, use flameless candles where required, and design the install to fit the window the temple gives us.
For Persian-Jewish couples the sofreh aghd — the ceremonial spread with its mirror and candelabra, sugar cones, herbs, and sweets — sits in front of or beside the chuppah. We design the two as one composition: the sofreh's florals share the chuppah's palette, the cloth and vessels are chosen for the sanctuary's scale, and the spread is set early enough for photographs before the ceremony.
Some couples hold the reception at the temple — its event listings include Ziegler Hall and Barad Hall; many move to a nearby hotel — the Beverly Wilshire, the Beverly Hills Hotel, Hotel Bel-Air, or the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills — all a short drive along Wilshire or Sunset. We design both installs on one timeline, moving the chuppah florals and the sofreh centerpiece pieces to the reception where it makes sense, and coordinate with the caterer and the mashgiach where the wedding uses a kosher caterer.
Guest counts here run large, so we plan centerpiece programs for long tables and big rounds and scale the head-table or stage florals to a full ballroom.
Conservative practice generally does not hold weddings on Shabbat or festivals and restricts certain periods of the year, and a Saturday-night wedding begins after Havdalah. What that means for installation depends on the temple's arrangements for the day: the window may fall before Shabbat begins or after it ends, and we plan the crew for whichever applies. Our dates calendar and Saturday-night timeline guides cover the details.
