Kosha Rental vs Custom Build

The trade-offs, from a florist who builds koshas in-house.

Couples planning an Arab wedding often face the same question: rent a pre-built kosha from a decor company, or have a florist design and build a custom one? Rentals are quicker and often cheaper; custom builds fit the room and the vision exactly. CHIC Flowers builds custom koshas on structures we own, so this guide lays out the honest trade-offs.

What a rental kosha is

Decor and rental companies keep a stock of kosha structures — backdrops, seating, columns, and arches — usually dressed in silk flowers or a mix of silk and fresh. You choose from their catalog, they deliver and set up, and the same piece may appear at several weddings. Prices are often lower because the structure and much of the floral work already exist.

What a custom kosha is

A custom kosha is designed for your room, your guest count, and your palette, and built with fresh flowers on a structure sized to the stage. Nothing is off the shelf: the width, height, shape, seating, and floral density are all chosen for the wedding. It costs more, and it looks like no one else's.

How to decide

Choose a rental when the budget is tight, the venue is small or standard, or you are happy with a catalog look. Choose custom when the ballroom is large and needs a kosha scaled to it, when the palette or style is specific, when you want fresh flowers throughout, or when the kosha will be the centerpiece of every photograph. Many couples also land in between — a rented structure dressed with fresh florals by their florist.

Cost comparison

Rental koshas typically run several thousand dollars depending on size and dressing. Custom fresh-flower koshas run $8,000 to $30,000 or more depending on scale and density. Because we own our structures, our custom builds do not carry a separate rental fee, so the difference comes down to fresh flowers and labor. See our kosha cost guide for the full breakdown.

Frequently asked questions

Is it cheaper to rent a kosha?+
Usually, yes. Rentals reuse an existing structure and floral dressing. Custom builds cost more because the structure, flowers, and labor are designed for your wedding.
Can a rented kosha fit a large ballroom?+
Sometimes, but rentals come in fixed sizes. A large, high-ceilinged room usually needs a custom kosha scaled to it to read as the focal point.
Are rental koshas real flowers?+
Most use silk or a mix of silk and fresh. Custom builds use fresh flowers throughout, or a mix you choose.
Can we rent a structure and have you add fresh flowers?+
Yes. That middle option works well when the budget is limited but you want fresh florals.
