Egyptian Wedding Flowers & Decor

Coptic and Muslim Egyptian weddings, from the henna night to the zaffa.

Egyptian weddings share the zaffa procession and the kosha with other Arab celebrations, but they have their own character — a lively henna night, a Coptic Orthodox church ceremony for Christian families or a katb al-kitab for Muslim families, and a reception where the zaffa can go on for the better part of an hour. CHIC Flowers designs Egyptian weddings across Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego for both Coptic and Muslim families.

Coptic Orthodox ceremonies

Southern California has a large Coptic community, and Coptic weddings begin with a church ceremony that includes the crowning of the couple. We design altar and aisle florals within the church's guidelines — Coptic churches have their own rules about placement near the sanctuary — and plan which pieces can move to the reception.

Muslim ceremonies and the henna night

For Egyptian Muslim families, the katb al-kitab is often held at home, at a mosque, or in a separate room at the venue, and we design the signing table, backdrop, and seating. The henna night before the wedding is a big celebration in Egyptian culture, with a decorated seat for the bride, music, and dancing, and we design it as a warm, colorful counterpart to the wedding.

The zaffa and the kosha

The Egyptian zaffa is famously long and lively, with drummers, a band, and sometimes belly dancers leading the couple in. We design the entrance and the route so the procession has a beautiful path and ends at the kosha. The kosha itself is scaled to the ballroom, with a floral backdrop or flower wall and styled seating for the couple.

Palette and style

Egyptian couples often choose white and gold, or white with soft blush, for the wedding, and richer reds, golds, and jewel tones for the henna night. Some families like a nod to Egyptian heritage in the details — lotus motifs, papyrus greens, or gold accents inspired by ancient design.
